(EN) Hylium Industries commercializes unmanned autonomous hydrogen ship technology

[Insight Energy Reporter Song Myung-gyu] Hylium Industries is joining hands with ACUA OCEAN, a company specializing in unmanned autonomous ships, to develop and commercialize unmanned liquefied hydrogen autonomous ships. 

Hylium Industries, a leading company in domestic liquefied hydrogen technology, announced on the 3rd that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with ACUA OCEAN (hereafter AO) in the UK. This agreement includes the development of marine unmanned autonomous hydrogen ships and the development of liquefied hydrogen fuel supply system technology for ships. 

AO, headquartered in the UK, is a leader in marine unmanned autonomous ship technology and last year jointly developed a cryogenic liquefied hydrogen fuel tank for marine vessels certified by Lloyd's Register with Hylium. 

AO recently secured a £5.4 million project to develop hydrogen-powered autonomous vessels funded by the UK Department of Transport in a clean ocean demonstration competition.

 

Hylium is currently developing and supplying liquid hydrogen tanks and charging solutions required for various hydrogen mobility fields including drones, UAMs, commercial vehicles and ships. According to this commercialization agreement, Hylium will develop and supply AO's H-USV (Hydrogen Unmanned Surface Vessel) combined with its own liquid hydrogen technology in Northeast Asia including Korea and Japan. 

AO's H-USV project is slated for a 4-ton payload demonstration from the Port of Aberdeen to the Orkney and Shetland Islands in the North Sea in the third quarter of 2024. The ship will also showcase various sensor technologies for collecting marine environment data.
